The social under­stan­ding of wealth in Africa has evol­ved signi­fi­cantly – from Indi­ge­nous, pre-colo­nial, and post-colo­nial, to con­tem­po­rary Africa. During these peri­ods a key distinc­tion emer­ges bet­ween mate­rial and non-mate­rial wealth.
